Bow Tie Baby Shower Details:
This is what Samantha said about planning and styling the party- "When I found out my best friend would be having a boy, blue gingham bow ties were the only way to go for the upcoming baby shower. We were planning a couples shower to include everyone, so I wanted to pick a style I thought would fit both the mom and dad-to-be. The result was a mix of preppy, modern and not too cutesy.
I matched the party's colors with those of the adorable nursery they were assembling, which was dark blue and a minty-aqua with hints of orange and grey. I found the perfect bow tie invitation featuring a blue gingham bow tie and carried blue gingham throughout the party's decor. This included making flags out of washi tape and toothpicks and using blue gingham basket liners to line some of the platters. I also used the gingham liners to make bow ties for my onesie garland which hung as a backdrop behind the table. Dark and light blue balloons on either side of the table helped create a party atmosphere.
Under our mantel I hung tissue-paper pinwheels in our party colors and added bud vases of orange ranunculas throughout our place. White hydrangeas reinforced the clean crisp preppy look and were placed throughout the house in large vases.
The navy blue rope table linen complemented the decor nicely, as did a light aqua colored table runner where beverages were served. This mango-ginger mocktail recipe was delicious! I placed a bottle of vodka nearby in case anyone wanted to make it a cocktail.
Our candy bar featured blue, minty aqua and white candies with matching scoops. We had orange cups to hold the candy and small blue and white chevron to-go bags with bow ties stamped onto them and monogrammed stickers to seal. The candy bags served as the party favor. We also served mini chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with dark and light blue icing. I made flags again for these, but this time used orange washi tape. Behind the candy were giant paper pinwheels I created as a backdrop. I placed a couple smaller ones that matched behind the drinks table to tie the two tables together.
In addition to the mom/dad-to-be opening gifts at the party, we gathered everyone to play a couple games as well. Minty/aqua mini clothespins were in a small bowl by the entrance with a sign for each party-goer to attach four to their outfit. As they mingled, they surrendered one clothespin for each time they mentioned the word "baby" to the person they were talking to. Whoever had the most at the end of the party won. Our other game gave string in adorable wax paper envelopes to each person and they had to guess the amount of string needed to wrap the mom-to be's belly. The winners each took home $10 gift certificates we'd picked up ahead of time".
